The Westover Senior Program will begin knitting classes on Jan. 29, 2008.  Classes will run for six weeks.  Jane Bailey from the Columbiana Library will teach the class.  There is no charge and is open to any seniors.The seniors meet every Wednesday at 10:00 am at the Westover Town Hall, located at 3312 Westover Rd.  Bring a covered dish and please call Annette Tyler (205) 678-7335 to register.  We are looking forward to a great year. 
 
 
The First Ms. Senior South Shelby County Pageant was held on Oct 20th, 2007, at New Life Church in Westover, Alabama.  Janet Murphree was crowned the winner by Liz Cochran, Miss Shelby County 2007; Edwina Chappell was the first runner up and Mary Young was second runner up.
 
 The contestants < Ruth Mae Carlee, Edwina Chappell, Janet Murphree, Dorothy Snodgrass, and Mary Young>, were judged in four different categories – interview, philosophy of life, poise and talent.
 
Janet Murphree lives in North Shelby. Her interests in Organizations & Talents are Alabama Counseling Assoc., American Counseling Assoc., American Assoc. of University Women Alumni, Delta Delta Delta Sorority, Russell Hospital Auxiliary, United Methodist Women, Grief Workshop Facilitator, Kings Ranch, Tennis, reading, embroidery, acting and directing, Gourmet Cooking
 
Edwina Chappell lives in Sterrett. Her interests in Organizations & Talents are Sunday School Teacher, Vacation Bible School Director, Singing, Artist, Fashion Designer and Seamstress, traveling, walking, crafts and hair styling.
 
Mary Young lives in North Shelby. Her interests in Organizations & Talents are Credit Professionals of Alabama, American Business Women’s Assoc., Altrusa International, Women’s Club, Music Club, American Cancer Society, American Heart Assoc., March of Dimes, Meals on Wheels and United Way, writing, public speaking, reading, gardening and vocalist.
 
Ruth Mae Carlee lives in Columbiana. Her interests in Organizations & Talents are Methodist Women’s Joyful Sounds Senior Choir, Singing and Community Bible Study, volunteering for the church.
 
Dorothy Snodgrass lives in Calera. Her interest in Organizations & Talents are Boys Clubs of America, Tennis Clubs, Volunteer for Sacred Heart Hospital and Hospital Auxiliary, Tennis, knitting, reading, traveling, ceramics and volunteering for the church.
 

We were very proud of our Seniors and wish them the best.
