The Fire Department has now completed the testing of all the hydrants within the municipality. We are still asking for locations of "dry hydrants" so that they may be mapped and tested.

The Fire Department has enjoyed the opportunity to participate in kid's programs in Westover and at Hargis. The kids have all had a great time and have been very curious about all the emergency departments and how they work.

We look forward to helping with any events upcoming in the town. It is always a positive connection when we are able to interact with the citizens and explain to them what we do and why we do it. If you have an event planned and would like for us to participate, please do not hesitate to give us a call.

Our Fire Department accepted delivery of the new Engine Wednesday, November 14th.  The "In Service" inspections, training and testing for the engine will be done Tuesday, November 20th. The delivery of the new engine, with a reserve engine in house as well, will help us tremendously in our effort to begin to improve our ISO rating.

Lieutenant Jerry Payne is the Station Commander and is very appreciative of the public input he has received and looks forward to more. A particular need for the department is to map all the "Dry Hydrants" in Westover. If you have a Dry Hydrant, please call the station at 678-4523 and let them know about it, so that it can be mapped.

We are very proud that the Westover Municipal Fire Department is now in operation with 24 hour, 7 day a week response to all Fire and Medical calls for help in our Municipality.  Our goal to implement this service was November 1st, but we were actually able to man the station on October 29th. The temporary station is located at 5331 Old Hwy 280, which is just about 100 yards west of Hwy 51.

The sign is in place and you would have a hard time missing it.  Should anyone need to stop by for a quick Blood Pressure check or just to visit, the personnel there want you to know that you are welcome, at anytime, day or night.

There is one Fire Engine in place, and the next one should be delivered by November 15.  While we have only the one Engine in place, with the mutual aid agreements we have in place with our neighboring municipalities, and the agreement with RPS for transport, we are in the position to respond to whatever emergencies arise with skilled professionals.

This is what the citizens of Westover expect and deserve, and one of the reasons a community decides to incorporate to begin with. Our Fire and Medical personnel are very busy updating maps to ensure "911" knows where you are and where your nearest hydrant is located. The non emergency phone number at the Fire Station is 678-4523, and, of course, if there is an emergency, please dial 911.

Look at our Web Page on a regular basis to keep abreast of activities the Fire Department holds.

  • After a lengthy round table discussion at the Council meeting May 1, 2007, between the Council and members of the Westover Volunteer Fire Department, it was decided by the Council that Westover needed to move forward with organizing a Municipal Fire Department with 24 hour coverage every day.
  • The Council authorized Mayor Mclauglin to begin the process and provided funding to do so.
  • November 1, 2007 was identified as the target date for the Municipal Fire Department to be in operation.
  • At this time, a new Fire Truck has been ordered, and should be delivered by November 1. A temporary Fire Station at Old 280 and Hwy 51 is ready to be manned, and we have 1 Fire Engine on site.
  • We are in the process of interviewing and hiring a Fire Chief and other personnel.
  • The Mayor and Council feel, that in view of all the activity going on in the area, it is time the Municipality provide coverage for our citizens, in a manner that the Town government be insured accountability for this service.
  • This is an exciting time for our Town, and the Mayor and Council are proud to be a part of the progress we are involved in.
